Parents and carers coaching training and mentoring

Right 2B Me is a 'not for profit' social enterprise that supports individual parents and carers of children with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LDD) to achieve what they want for themselves as well as for their children.

Right 2B Me has been developed in conversation with parents and carers and is supported by independent research.

Coaching training and support for parents and carers

Why work with Parents/Carers?

We know from what parents and carers have told us when working with them, and from a recent survey, that whilst caring for a child with disabilities can bring great joy it also brings enormous stresses, strains, complexities and challenges. Parents/carers rarely have the opportunity to focus on their own needs. This restricts what they can achieve for themselves as well as their child and often increases their dependency on specialist services.

What do we want to do?

While working with the whole family is now a higher priority, the main focus is still on the child or young person. Coaching training and support for parents and carersOur work shifts the focus onto supporting parents and carers to meet their own needs and aspirations and to have more influence and control over the services they access.

Helping them to enrich their lives and become more economically and socially independent will not only improve each individual parent/carer's life but will also impact positively on the rest of the family.

The aim of this work is to . . .

• support parents/carers of children with LDD to become more independent by giving them the
skills, knowledge and understanding to influence service provision and to achieve their own
  aspirations

• provide commissioners and providers of services to children and adults with new insights and
approaches that will match provision more effectively and efficiently to needs and encourage
different ways of thinking and working

• reduce the dependency of parents/carers on statutory provision and ensure more appropriate, timely and cost effective use of
services when they do need them

Parents and carers - training, help and supportWe do this by . . .

• the delivery of a coaching model that directly supports parents/carers to
become increasingly autonomous and personally fulfilled as well as better
able to influence service provision for the benefit of themselves, their family
  and the wider system

• the delivery of an education programme for service providers that enables them
  to work differently with parents/carers

  • • access to accreditation and licensing of coaches and trainers, including
parents and carers, to deliver the programme

• providing access for parents/carers, service providers and trainers to a virtual
learning environment as well as to helpful information and materials

Parents and carers for training, help and support

What difference will it make?

It will . . .

• empower parents and carers to be more economically and socially
independent and feel more in control of their lives

• promote quality of life for the whole family

• provide accurate information of needs to commissioners and service
  providers

• ensure the appropriate, timely and more cost effective use of limited
  resources

How can we help?

Right 2B Me has a team of accredited and highly trained coaches who have
considerable and successful experience of working with individuals to enable
them to achieve their personal goals.

As a result of our experience and research with parents and carers we have developed a coaching programme and related resources designed specifically to meet their needs. This programme is also available for use by front line staff who come into contact with parents and carers as part of their day to day work.
