FAQs

Psychometric Assessment . . . what is it?

Psychometric Assessment is a structured way of evaluating how people perform on various tasks or respond in different situations.

It is used by many employers as part of their selection process as well as in other contexts such as coaching, counselling and career development. It can provide essential information for an individual or an organisation, for example, at times of change and restructuring; to inform continuous professional development; to assess whether an individual is ready and/or able to take on different responsibilities; or a person is considering moving to a different job or environment.

Psychometric assessment adds value by gathering information that cannot be easily accessed in other ways. Providing the psychometric instruments used have been rigorously researched for reliability and validity, and take account of issues such as gender and culture, they will be able to provide a detailed and objective view of the individual. Importantly, in a recruitment context, they act as a tool to broaden the discussion of the match between individual's skills or competencies and an organisation's requirements and culture. At an individual level they can provide insights about values, beliefs, interests, motivation and behaviour.
