This is not only about getting the balance right between life and work – what is often called work/life balance - but also ensuring that we have a balance across all aspects of our life.

When looking at our total wellbeing we need to have a balance between our:

  • Economic wellbeing
  • Psychological wellbeing
  • Social wellbeing
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Physical wellbeing
  • Spiritual wellbeing

The 'right' balance between these different aspects of life will differ from person to person. To keep staff 'well' and working at their optimum level, and to retain what is their most valuable resource, it is wise for an organisation to consider how they can include aspects of wellbeing in their professional development programme. For an individual it is important that they spend time considering what the right balance is for them so they can target the areas which need attention.
