Robert’s experience has been in the local government, education, trade union and SME sectors. He is a member of the xué coaching and mentoring teams.

His experience has been primarily in teaching, writing, school leadership and Local Authority advisory work. Robert has extensive experience in school improvement and development work through strategic staff learning and development programmes using the Investors in People Standard and change management programmes at individual, team and school levels. This has included the use of diagnostic and formative assessment tools covering leadership styles, team and organisational climate.

Over the last ten years he has gained extensive, much sought after experience of supporting the national headteacher performance management arrangements (all phases), training school governors and supporting them to set, monitor and review challenging and creative objectives. Robert has also been a "critical friend" for a large number of headteachers and deputy headteachers and supported them, through coaching, in the resolution of a range of challenging improvement and personal development issues.

  • Leadership experience: leading programmes for a Local Authority deploying teams of seconded teachers and headteachers, as an assistant headteacher in a large secondary school, in business leading a successful consultancy and training enterprise
  • Advisory and assessment experience: as an Investors in People adviser and assessor working in the education, public service and SME sectors: as an Adviser for the Every Child Matters Quality Mark in the education sector and more recently as a Customer Service Excellence (Chartermark) assessor in the public service sector
  • Training experience: covering a wide range of issues such as school leadership and management, assertiveness, conflict management and resolution, learning to learn and skills-based curriculum design
  • Consultancy experience: mostly covering school leadership in primary and secondary schools relating to strategic staff development, induction, capacity building, performance management, self-evaluation, strategic improvement planning, preparing for inspection (Sections 5 and 48), raising attainment strategies and learning to learn skills
  • Coaching experience: six years experience of leadership and personal development coaching for school leaders.

Robert is an accredited Investors in People adviser and assessor, a Hay Group Associate licensed to use their suite of leadership diagnostic and coaching tools and is a member of the Institute of Business Consultants. He has post-graduate (or equivalent) qualifications in sociological analysis, leadership, management and HRD and a national profile within Aspect.
