What is the difference between Leadership Coaching and Personal Coaching?

There is very little difference between Leadership Coaching and Personal Coaching in terms of the skills, tools and techniques that an experienced coach will use.

At xué we have made a distinction between Leadership and Personal Coaching only to emphasise that our starting point can be from a work or a personal context. Leadership Coaching usually starts from the client's desire to grapple with a particular work issue or to improve performance at work in some way. It is more akin to what is often described as Performance Coaching.

Performance Coaching will usually start from a context that is within a client's personal life. It may focus, for example, on a family or relationship issue or on a desire to tackle something that is getting in the way of personal development, such as a phobia or inability to handle conflict. As the coaching relationship develops the client will often decide it is desirable not to segment the work and personal aspects of their life and they may feel the need to reflect on it as a whole. This would always be for the client to decide.
